Audience Voting - answers |
|
What is going to cost to listen, vote and coment?
Its absolutely free to listen, vote and comment. The only time you will pay is if you want to buy downloads or albums. |
 |
|
Why should I vote?
Because it’s fun, free and it’s the future of music. And you’ll be directly influencing the overall track rating making you part of the A&R process. |
 |
|
How will voting benefit me as a listener?
There are two main benefits. First of all, the more you vote, the more mPoints you accumulate, which translates into an number of exciting opportunities. Secondly, the more you vote the more we get to understand what it is you like and don’t like. That way, we’ll be able to deliver more of the music that suits your taste. |
 |
|
Do I have to vote every day?
No – you can vote when ever you like. All day long if you want! |
 |
|
How many times am I allowed to vote?
As many time as you like. |
 |
|
Can I vote more than once on a song?
No – one song, one vote. Otherwise that would be cheating. |
 |
|
Can I change my vote once it’s cast?
Sorry, once it’s done it’s done. |
 |
|
Do I have to listen to an entire song before I can vote?
No, you can vote anytime after the first 10 seconds of a track. |
 |
|
What happens if I don’t cast any votes for a period of time?
We’re happy to see you whenever you can. We won’t hold your absence against you because we know you’re busy. If you have not visited the site for some time, we might send you a reminder about all the great music that you’re missing. |
 |
|
Will my vote really make a difference? How?
Yes. As a record company we are interested in great music from developing artists. The more positive votes an artist gets the greater the chance we will want to do something with them. Remember we want to develop artists you like. |

I can't hear any music? Why?
After pressing play and you can't hear any music:
- Check your speakers/volume control
- Make sure you have Java 1.4 or later installed and enabled, check at the Java test page
General Problems:
- FireFox on Max OSX needs to be vesion 1.5 or later
- Internet Explorer on Mac OSX is known not to work at all with MVine

General - answers |
|
How do I tell a friend about MVine?
Email them, sms them, talk to them, or click the ‘tell a friend’ icon on the music player. |
 |
|
How is my profile/personal information stored and maintained?
We store all personal information securely. We don’t pass on members’ names. Ever. Even if we’re bribed with chocolate. |
 |
|
Can I update my profile as often as I choose?
Yes. Once you have logged in just click on My MVine and away you go. |
 |
|
Where is MVine getting their research data?
We’re watching you. |
 |
|
Why can’t I post messages?
You have to be registered and logged in to use the message board facility. |
 |
|
Why can’t I choose what music I listen to?
We think it’s more fun not knowing what’s coming up next. Also you might discover a passion for nu-vegetarian rock. Alternatively, you might hate something just because we categorized it under ‘urban’, when you might have quite liked it if we’d told you it was ‘alternative’. |
 |
|
Why ‘genre-free’?
Why not? No seriously, every other record label we know uses genres, but we don’t know a single person who categorises their own record collections like that. Alphabetically, perhaps, if you’re tidy/obsessive compulsive/have time on your hands. It’s a classification system that is too vague and too general a classification. |
 |
|
Who do you lot think you are? Who are MVine?
We’re just a bunch of people who are passionate about music. You can find out more at About Us or by checking out the Press Room. |

How do I start?
We invite you to upload music in raw (AIFF, WAV) or MP3 format onto the site for public appraisal. You choose whether to be anonymous or to post your details (including any website address and photos). Your work remains your copyright and your statutory rights are not affected.
Click the Upload Tracks button for full details.
What happens next?
Members of our worldwide audience temporarily download randomly assigned tracks (your music cannot be stolen). They rate your music on a sliding scale and post any further comments. Their recorded responses tell us whether they – the ultimate consumers – want to hear more. ‘Crimson’, MVine’s unique database reporting system, analyses all the reactions to your work over a specific period. Our sophisticated tracking system then uses a very wide range of criteria to let us know exactly to whom your music appeals.
How will I know what the track ratings are?
Tracks that get consistently positive reactions will move up the MVine chain, bringing the best music to our attention. Less successful material moves progressively down the chain and is eventually dropped from the site. We keep you informed with regular reports about how your tracks are doing. You could think of this as a very clever Clap-o-meter.
Do I have to pay anything?
It’s absolutely FREE to upload your tracks (and photos and videos!) and have your music listened to by thousands of music fans across the world.
Can I get hold of the detailed comments from the audience?
Yes. Click on Voting Update for more details.
What happens if my tracks get consistently high ratings?
We talk turkey. If we’re all satisfied, we will offer you a partnership package tailored to your individual needs. It may include recording and production in one of our studios, contact with our network of experienced producers and engineers, or a stand-alone distribution deal. It depends on what you’re looking for.
What happens if my tracks get poor ratings?
Tracks with poor ratings will gradually move down the MVine chain and will eventually be dropped from the site. However, we’ll let you know what’s happening and give you the opportunity to remove a less popular track and upload a new one.
Why should I consider working with MVine?
MVine is committed to open, honest relationships with our artists. We’re dedicated to selling your music and helping you to develop your career. We will never compromise your integrity as an artist and we will always try to do our very best for you.
What does MVine offer that major record companies or indie labels don’t?
Our contracts give you 50% of the profit (after costs) on sales of your music achieved through MVine. Once your music has been highly rated by our audience, our database can help you access new targeted markets. Our contracts are short-term so if you’re not happy with us, you won’t have to wait five years to go elsewhere.
How do I sell my music through MVine?
There are two ways. When audience members listen to your music over the internet, they can decide to ‘buy now’. Each track costs 79p to download. Of that money, 50% after costs is passed directly back to you. We keep accurate accounts of every single download, and account to you every month. We’ll also take care of any publishing splits, as long as you give us the details. MVine selected artists can sell CDs in our shop too.
Can I post a link to my own website?
Yes, please do – just post the link when you’re uploading tracks.
Why do you only partner with certain artists?
Our carefully selected artist catalogue is smaller than many organisations, and we see this as a distinct advantage. We are establishing a clear label brand for high quality original artists. We believe that music should be personality based, not genre based, and we work with artists from all areas of the music spectrum. Our mantra will always be ‘material, material, material’.
Can MVine upload my music for me?
Yes. Send a CD with your desired three tracks marked to:
MVine
Tara
Coombe Ridings
Surrey, KT3 3JS
United Kingdom
Please include your MVine registration name (=email address) and password. We will email as soon as your music is on the system.
Why CD quality files?
Uploading CD quality files ensures that MVine can hold high quality compressed and uncompressed files for future download/cd sales for as long as you, the artist, wants. Music is streamed to listeners on MVine in OggVorbis format - a medium that compresses your music for fast and efficient streaming (like mp3 but way better).
If you delete a file, all copies of that file are automatically removed from our system (unless someone has purchased the track, in which case it will be deleted after three months). No tracks will be sold without the prior agreement of the artist.
