ist ist are, exactly as you find them, a group a musicians trying to create a body of work that brings people together in a shared knowledge of their hopes, dreams, disappointments and annoyance at people who wear cashmere. From their angry odd-rock debut "Freudian Corduroy" through their eclectic, lushly-arranged sophomore effort "King Martha" and on to the forthcoming third album, "Toothpick Bridge"... ist's work is varied, yet tied together by a single thread. Singer Kenton Hall sums it up thusly, "The feeling from which we always work is this. You walk into your front room and see your small daughter lying, peacefully asleep, on the sofa. Eyes rolled back in her head, tongue lolling to one side. And you gaze at her, with love in your heart, and think... God, she looks like her mother." REVIEWS "Unlike Skegness' tourist board who might falsely claim that there's something for everyone, in Ist's case it happens to be true" - Manchester Music "Intelligent lyrics, instrumental artistry, an amazing blend of sleek pop and very grown up ideas. Is it rock? is it pop? Is it Jazz? Does it matter?" - BBC Collective "A uniformly appealing album filled with memorable tunes, King Martha is lightweight pop in the best possible sense of the term." - Stewart Mason, All Music "A strident and, dare we say, sexy, little pop number that doesn't even have the cheek to out-stay it's welcome. Top Stuff." - Record Collector "With insightful lyrics delivered in a vocal that sounds like Bob Geldof raised on soul, it's an LP that drips sentiment and is in, in turn, uplifting and melancholic. " - Cat Turnell, Leicester Mercury "A 'Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Heart Club Band' for the post-millennium generation." - Skidmark "King Martha has its own vibe, its own personality, and its own place in rock 'n' roll. It's sexual and complex and at the same time simple and funny. This is what happens when you put a Canadian, an Englishman, and a Scotsman in a band, and believe me – this melting pot of musical talents needs to happen more often." - Left Off the Dial "The lyrics are utterly brilliant... There are no bad songs on this album" - The Mag "There are diamonds here, now you go get them... " - Unpeeled "Smart lyrics, catchy tunes, and a nice, friendly website into the bargain." - Neil Gaiman "I'm not sure if it's completely because of the lyrics, or if it's more likely the fault of the catchy horn and guitar riffs. But for whatever reason, these guys are addictive." - You Ain't No Picasso "When you're up there collecting your Mercury Music Prize in a year or two, I shall be sitting at home thinking, I always knew they'd be big... " - Iain Banks "The songs weave through moods and textures beautifully, with some immaculate performances and arrangements." - Project Marv "These tunes as pure sex!" - DIVE magazine
